Like I said: its a matter of opinion, but its not the best of both worlds, because for every minute you spend doing PvE thats a minute you aren't doing PvP which is the true fun of the game. It's like saying I prefer pleasure and pain in my life, the best of both worlds; whereas, I prefer just pleasure.

Can we just stop this already people?

The game is meant for both PvP and PvE. Neither is meant to be the "true" fun of the game. They both are.

You say that like PvE is not fun, maybe not you it isn't. I think PvP isn't the true fun... the whole game is. Not my fault you don't like PvE.

Is it like going to kill people to have a PVE character? at least one? i heard some of you guys reach ascension in like 2-3 days! what's the big deal? I totally enjoy PVE and the scenery is just breathtaking i find! And if you played pve you'll notice they've put a ton of effort into the pve areas compared to pvp. But it's really fun to try your hand at pvp with your pve character cause that's the one you use most of the time so you'll know the weakness of that person, plus you built it up from scratch and not a template which adds to the excitement when you win. I play both pvp and pve and enjoy the "entire" game alot, why can't the people that constantly want this want that just play another game that's more fair and no grind? I would never expect any rpg type game to be without grind but this is the least i've seen in grinding, GW isn't the only one in town I could enjoy the game more with less whiners and have more players that enjoy the game.

as somebody pointed out how easy it would be to put the priest in the arena

AND

they tested it an EXTRA week to get input and balance from the testers

MAYBE

they meant it when they did NOT put it in the arena

I don't think it's too much to ask for you to complete the PvE (or just get to the forge) once to be able to unlock everything.

I think they should place the priest in the arena, because than its possible for players who dont like PVE to play PVP without the need to play PVE. The PVP part is, as the name Guild Wars says, the main part of the game and it should be easier to gain access to this part.

I think they should put the priests in a special area ONLY those people that have completed the game at least ONCE can enter. Unless that is they remove the need to have favour to enter the fissue or UW.

Why should PVP people be able to get any skill or item they want with out ever haveing to do PVE. When PVE people have to reply on pvp results to get in to a PVE area.

For the 548976498679867th time PVP is NOT MAIN PART OF THE GAME its a SIDE PART for you do to when you FINISHED THE PVE ONCE or more

have you compared the amount of content for PVE compared to PVP?

and that ir is officially stated on the game site that this is a competitive online ROLL PLAYING GAME and not pvp with rpg afterthought

i do not mind you having a few nice little sandboxes here and there in the much bigger playground that is GW as there is room for all but please dont think pvp is everything

actually the guildwars refers to a historical event in the game explaining how the char got the upper hand

Why should they force the players to play the PVE part of the game? I think its a great part of the game that you have good PVE mode and a good PVP mode and that you can play whatever you like more. This is the reason why they should allow the players to buy all abilities from the priests in the arena.

hit it on the button. After seeing all these disgruntled pvp posts I started to belive 'I' was the only one to actually see the promotional 'Guild Wars Cinematic Trailer' on their website.

OR read any lore.

Matter a fact, I have finished game idea waiting to be published. I thought everything out and used what I've seen happen in other mmos to avoid the same problems.

I know that you can avoid farming by you make item drops and the profit from team quest larger in a group than they would if you were to soloed.

I know to avoid junk items left over by quests is to create certain NPCs who exchange such junk for money.

I know that in order to avoid powergaming and inflatation, you have to allow the players to make their own market and put levels on armor. Right now the market is inflatated because all the items are worth almost nothing, which is why so many underlevel characters can buy high level items early in the game.

I know in order to avoid easy A.I, you have to give A.I the ability to adapt to a player's gameplay.

I know that to make a game more fun, you avoid the cliches of other rpgs, (which GW didn't do) and introduce new ideas.

If I had been on the ANet team, I would have avoid issues going on now.

RTSFirebat and Ikinsey please stop flaming each other like that.
You both rasied some good points at first but now you're just squabling at each other.

I do belive that it is A.nets intention for players to play through the PvE at least once. PvE is a great way to learn how skills work, form parties (You think it's hard in Elonas Reach? Wait untill you try the tomb ) and learn to communicate with the community to get the most out of the game.

Personally I've never COMPLETED PvE. not yet. I haven't passed ring of fire beacuse I find so many otehr things to do. Unlocking more skills, trying new combinations of traits, skills and characters. Some people might see this as "wasting time" but i prefer to think of it as enjoying the game.

Maybe A.Net wanted to see what effect having such a radicle new system would do to their game? Who knows. We'll have to wait for them to tell us.

persoannly I don't think having them in the PvP areas would be such a bad idea.

You don't learn how to use your abilities in PvE unless the game challenges requires it, but sadly GW doesn't have such challenges except for the first mesmer quest in pre-searing.

A lot of people who play poorly in PvP come from PvE. Most of them either have never worked in a group (due excessive henchmen partying) or they never played the many arena modes while playing through PvE mode.

No, they didn't. In fact, they've said otherwise in several official statements (Fansite Fridays). Either solo or group (FF#7), PvP or PvE (FF#31), they are committed to provide equal consideration and support to all kinds of players (FF#38).

From what I've heard, they only added PvE to make everyone happy.
That would make you incredibly gullible. Start getting your news from legitimate sources instead of random idiots on the Internet trying to promote one agenda or another.

That having been said... I do find it rather odd that there are no Priests of Balthazar in the PvP staging areas. Hopefully that's an oversight that'll be corrected in the future.

I find it hard to believe that not including the priests in the PvP arenas was an oversight... simply because they remembered to add the priests to PvE areas, where the priests are useless.

It seems pretty clear to me that they intended it to work that way... possibly to prevent people from unlocking skills which take a lot of time to get to in PvE after having played the game in PvP for a mere couple hours or so.

And I think that's a good idea - I'd hate to see Pvp John Doe unlock Hundred Blades within 3 hours of installing the game just because he got lucky and ran into 312 clueless teams in the LA arena (which isn't too hard to picture).

I don't think, however, that forcing people to play thru PvE at least once is a good idea, simply because ANet seems to wish to give everyone the freedom to play the game however they like. The current method still doesn't allow this (although it's better than the previous one where PvP characters could never unlock anything).

My suggestion would be to add priests of Balthazar to the PvP arenas, BUT to make them open up gradually on the skills they offer...For example, the PvP arena's priests could require you to unlock 5 of the Ascalon priest's skills before they would offer you the Yak's bend priest's skills... or they could require you to have a given amount of rank/fame to be able to unlock skills from each PvE town. At 0 rank, you'd only be able to unlock Ascalon skills, etc.

This would let people unlock all the skills by only playing PvP from the minute they buy the game if they wish to do so, but it would keep the skills that are hard to unlock in PvE hard to unlock in PvP (which seems to be their goal with the way they've implemented the priests, and which I agree is a good thing).
